James Guppy | Narrative Painting
There are many ways to tell a story in art. Although the visual narrative has been used primarily in contemporary society through film and television; the traditions of storytelling go back thousands of years to the earliest days of painting.
There is something very powerful in the still image as a narrative tool. From Egyptian frescos, Religious Art, to comics, the graphic novel and contemporary painting; there will always be a place for that silent still picture that tells a beautiful tale.
This taster is an introduction to the use of narration in painting and the many ways we can tell a story.
