BSA INITIATIVES

Various community initiatives have been born from the creative minds of the BSA crew over the years, such as The BSA Project Space, Art in the Pub and the BSA Ralph Woodford Residency.

FIRST NATIONS VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

Delivered in partnership with Arts Northern Rivers, the First Nations Visual Arts Scholarship sponsors a First Nations artist to participate in three years study at BSA. Designed to provide an extensive grounding in the Visual Arts, students gain knowledge, skills and experience needed to form an integrated understanding of contemporary visual arts ideas and practices.

Attuned to the needs of individual students, the course is suitable to both emerging artists who wish to establish their practice and established artists who wish to refine or expand. The structured studio program incorporates approaches to a number of disciplines including drawing, painting, printmaking, 3D studies, installation practice, digital media, design principles, colour theory, art history and critical thinking.

This scholarship is supported by Arts Northern Rivers Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS) funding as well as the Arts Northern Rivers Gift Fund.

BSA PROJECT SPACE

The BSA Project Space is a contemporary exhibition space located inside a repurposed industrial workshop that sits within the headquarters and studios of Byron School of Art (BSA) in Mullumbimby, NSW. Since its founding in 2014 the space has functioned as both a springboard for students of the BSA who wish to gain experience in professional exhibition practice, and as a space for the curation of exhibitions across a diverse range of disciplines.

The BSA Project Space aims to support the development of a diverse range of artistic practices from our region and beyond including 2D and 3D works, installation, digital media and more. Other initiatives supported by BSA Project Space include talks by exhibiting artists, curators and visiting art organisations.

ART IN THE PUB

A Byron School of Art initiative in collaboration with c.a.s.e. inc. (Contemporary Art Space and Education). On selected Monday nights throughout the year, a visiting artist or art professional joins us at the The Court House Hotel in Mullumbimby to talk about their practice.
